How can I make my shopping more green / ethical / ecological?
I work in a store selling cosmetics and fair trade and other things bathroom. We want to make the area more environmentally friendly (in the way it is managed, not what we sell). Anyone got any ideas? We looked at the obvious stuff, like using things such as suppliers of green energy, recycling rainwater, installing wind turbines and solar panels, that sort of thing, but I need more good, intelligent, original ideas.
Is your shop in a commercial area with several other stores in densely put together, not too far from lots of homes, as a traditional downtown, or is it a place where people have to drive just to visit your store, then drive to make other races, as in most suburbs? Moving close to where people live, or near the place where people store all way, as next to a supermarket or a village, would be the best thing you can do if you're not already. Some something unique and PR-wise would be to offer delivery in an eco-friendly vehicle. The delivery is really important and saving energy if you deliver once a day combining several trips, and helps the housebound. Whatever you do, keep in mind that the effects will be multiplied, since you influence what other retailers are moving in the standard. Good for you.
